Track of the Week

This week’s choice for Track of the week is an absolute Metalcore face-melter.  If you like shredding guitar riffs, pounding powerhouse drums, a huge stadium sized breakdown and sublime scream and clean vocals, then look no further than Crazy EightyEight’s track Shinebox, and to put it simply it’s a belter.

CrazyEightyEight are made up from members of many amazing bands and projects. The band consist of Lauren Babic (Red Handed Denial), Jarrod Alonge and Patty Walters (As It Is). The song is fast, frantic and a TON of fun. Although CrazyEightyEight only formed last year the band have been mega busy. In just one short year the band have released their debut EP, two singles with accompanying music videos, an EP made up entirely of covers and as well as these the band smashed their crowdfunding target and because of this they are currently recording their debut full length album. To call this band simply “busy” would be an understatement. One thing is for sure, if Shinebox is anything to go by, the album is going to be a corker.

About the song, lead singer Lauren Babic told Rocksound, "Shinebox came about pretty similarly to our EP with many messages back and forth. C88 has always been about celebrating our nostalgic roots and we have a list of all our favourite movies and characters we want to eventually draw influence from. Shinebox is a Goodfellas reference written from the perspective of Joe Pesci’s character, Tommy DeSimone. Tommy’s psychotic behaviour called for a really aggressive feel and I had a blast tracking the vocals.  I also did screams in an original C88 song for the first time, so I was stoked on that. I think the mood translated especially well on this track and I couldn’t be happier with how it came out”.

Shinedown is a great showcase for the potential of CrazyEightyEight. The band effortlessly combine pure rock swagger with heavy as shit metalcore screams and breakdowns to create their own truly unique sound. The band recently smashed their $50,000 target on Kickstarter and now are in the process of writing and recording their debut album which is due for release later this year. CrazyEighyEight are a favourite here at Echion Music and we can’t wait for the album to drop. With their unique sound, killer lyrics and amazing vocals one thing is for sure, Post Hardcore has never been so much fun.
