Introducing - West Thebarton
Welcome to a new feature on Echion Music – Introducing. Echion music is dedicated to growing the reputation of the many various rock and metal genres whilst also putting a spotlight on some of the greatest bands around big or small and in this new feature we will focus on up and coming bands you may not be aware of.
For the first instalment of the Introducing feature we have an absolute corker of a band, West Thebarton. West Thebarton are a 7-piece garage-rock band who hail from Adelaide, Australia and holy shit what a band to start with.
Last year saw the 7-piece from Adelaide release the absolute belter of the track that was Moving Out. This was closely followed by their scuzzy garage-rock anthem Bible Camp, again to much critical acclaim and it’s easy to see why. West Thebarton showcases frontman Reverend Ray’s gravelly and raw vocals, accompanied by thrashy guitars all to create the perfect Aussie rock experience.
The band are visceral, raw and definitely one to keep an eye out for in the future. Hot on the tail of Bible Camp the band have just announced details of their debut album, Different Beings Been Different which is to be released 18th May. It will be available to stream/download, and also buy on limited vinyl. Rev, the bands vocalist, describes the new LP as “real Aussie straight-from-the-gut rock. I wanted the record to be fucking grandiose, but not try and be a pub rock cliché.”
Alongside news of Different Beings Being Different getting released, the band also revealed the video for brand new single, Stuck on You. It sees the band wake up after a heavy night, and head off to their various day jobs combined with flashbacks from the night before. The track is an absolute powerhouse and show a band at their peak. If Stuck on You is anything to go by Different Beings Been Different is going to be an amazing debut effort.
Led by charismatic leader figure, gravel-voiced frontman Reverend Ray, West Thebarton has catapulted into the Aussie rock stratosphere. Their unique mix of raw, powerful and emotional music saw the band nominated for a whopping SIX South Australian Music Awards last year, including Best Release and Best Song.
This summer, West Thebarton are heading over to the UK for the first time EVER as a band. They’re playing Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall on Friday 8th August, and then head to Reading & Leeds Festival later that month. West Thebarton will play the BBC Radio 1 Stage at Reading on Saturday 25th August, and Leeds on Sunday 26th August. They are DEFINITELY worth checking out as you may just find, your new favourite band. Go listen to Stuck on You and discover the best thing to come out of Australia since vegemite.
