Top Ten Pop Punk Artists You (Possibly) Haven't Heard Before

Your new pop punk playlist

Pop punk is one of my favourite genres. The music is exciting, fun and fast as hell which makes almost any pop punk song a blast to listen to. However, most of the larger pop punk bands are well known and there are lots of smaller bands out there who are amazing and deserve your time and attention. Here is my pick of the top 10 pop punk artists who you should be listening to right now, who you (possibly) haven’t heard before.

Icon For Hire are a female fronted Duo who hail from Illinois, USA. Formed in 2007 the band currently consist of singer Ariel Bloomer and guitarist Shawn Jump. Their debut self-titled album is one of the largest musical kickstarters of all time and is an absolute powerhouse. The album was produced by Mike Green (Gwen Stefani, All Time Low) which shows the ambition and scale of the band.

Icon For Hire combine an amazing blend of hard rock, pop punk, hip-hop and electronica into a sledgehammer of a sound that packs one hell of a punch. Icons For Hire have a unique sound and are a must listen for any fan of the pop punk genre. Just listen to the track Cynics & Critics from their debut album and tell me you aren’t hooked.

Milestones are an alternative, pop punk powerhouse who are based of Manchester, England. They released their debut E.P Equal Measures in 2016 and quickly became a darling in the UK pop punk scene. The E.P was produced by Phil Gornell who has worked with bands such as Bring Me The Horizon, Set Your Goals and All Time Low.

Equal Measures is a pop punk masterpiece of an E.P and combines insanely catchy choruses, meaningful lyrics and powerful musicianship. Milestones have recently released their debut album Red Lights in 2018 and it's every bit as good as their debut E.P. Call Me A Disaster is a modern pop punk anthem and, honestly, that’s not even an understatement.

As December Falls are a female fronted pop punk quartet who hail from Nottingham, UK. Formed in 2014, As December Falls have gained some serious media attention. The band’s debut E.P A Home Inside Your Head picked up some serious attention from the BBC in 2014 and in 2016 As December Falls were named one of Scuzz TV's top unsigned bands.

Their latest single More To You shows massive ambition for a band so early in their career. The track has the vibe of a huge anthem and could easily inspire stadium sized sing alongs. As December Falls have just finished recording their debut album and the future looks bright. So what are you waiting for?

Parting Gift are an amazing quintet who were formed in 2017 and hail from Manchester, UK. Although the band have been around for just over a year they have garnered nationwide attention. Their latest double singles Vein & Rensing are a great showcase of what the band can achieve. Vein has been played on the BBC radio rock show.

Produced by George Lever, Vein & Rensing explore the black and white in human relationships, Vein being the black and Rensing being the white. The music video was crafted to visualise the singles and encompasses both tracks in one monochromatic cinematic sweep, indicative of the music’s themes and inspiration.

The Everlaine are a female fronted pop punk band who hail from Norwich, UK. In 2015 The Everlaine released their debut E.P The Secret’s Out which was recorded in Steel City Studio in Sheffield. The Secret’s Out was released to high praise and it’s easy to see why. The catchy lyrics and sing-a-long choruses make each song on The Secret’s Out a must listen.

With fast, powerful, emotional music and beautiful lyrics and vocals The Everlaine are a must listen for any fan of the genre. Go watch the music video for the sublime I Am A Fighter and thank me later.

Rydell are a high energy punk rock quintet who hail from Ontario, Canada and are one of Canada's most promising pop punk newcomers. Having already racked up a load of shows and tours with bands such as Bring Me The Horizon, Billy Talent and The Wonder Years as well as several headline and co-headline runs through the US and Canada the band are ready to take over the world.

They released their self-titled E.P I Was Hoping This Could Save Me in 2014 and although short in length, it’s a great listen. The track The Lost Boys is a standout from the E.P and encompasses everything that pop punk should be, fun, exciting and LOUD as hell.

Diamante is an American rocker who hails from Boston, USA. Her debut E.P Dirty Blonde was released in 2015 and was praised for it's smart and catchy lyrics as well as it's balls to the walls attitude. Her debut album, which has been produced by Howard Benson (Chris Cornell, Kelly Clarkson, My Chemical Romance, Halestorm), is set to be released later this year.

The music that Diamante releases is a raw and energetic, ridiculously infectious mix of dirty garage rock and roll sounds which are guaranteed to get you singing along at the top of your lungs. If you’re still not convinced if Diamante is for you check out her latest single Had Enough and tell me you’re not hooked.

Although no longer a band Gatsbys American Dream were a great band formed in 2001 who was based out of Seattle, Washington. During their time as a band Gatsbys American Dream released four full length albums and one E.P. With the most well received of the lot being the 2005 release Volcano.

With their own signature sound Gatsbys American Dream are a must listen for any fan of the pop punk genre. Theatre shows the band at their best and is almost guaranteed to stick in your head long after just a single listen. It’s a shame that the band aren’t together anymore but we will always have Theatre.

Doll Skin is an all-female rock band from Phoenix, Arizona. The band have been around since 2013 and have won many accolades since their inception five years ago. Doll Skin have their own distinctive sound which combines aspects of many genres including punk, metal, alternative & pop.

Their latest album Manic Pixie Dream Girl was released in 2017 which debuted on the Billboard Heat-seeker chart at #6 and moved up one spot to #5 in week two. Shut Up (You Miss Me) is a song that encompasses all that Doll Skin stand for and is a great introduction into the band. It’s fast, frantic and energetic as hell and demands your attention. In short Doll Skin are great, go listen.

SEASONS are a hard hitting, 5 piece Alternative Rock band who hail from Bedfordshire, UK. The band were formed in 2016 and has already received praise from the likes of Kerrang! Rocksound magazine, BBC Introducing and Scuzz TV.

SEASONS have a distinctive style which includes big riffs and anthemic choruses that get the whole crowd pumping. Their track Getaway shows a band at its vibrant best. With their latest E.P Chapters set for release next month, now is a great jumping on point for new fans.
